A Tribute to Alan Peters

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of one of GVA’s closest family members, Alan E. Peters, 77, of Wilmington, Delaware, on March 22, 2023. He was surrounded by his loving family including his wife of 52 years, Claudia, and daughter Meghan Geary who is also part of the GVA family working with her father at Alan E. Peters and Associates. Our deepest condolences go out to his family and team members.

In 1986, Alan started his own firm, Alan E. Peters and Associates, specializing in insurance, investments, and estate planning.  Shortly thereafter he also started Peters Financial Planning and in 2012 Mike Dedda and Ryan Todd purchased both businesses continuing with Alan E Peters & Associates where Mike Dedda is currently an advisor.  James Spinelli and Ryan Todd rebranded Peters Financial Planning to “Great Valley Advisor Group” James and Ryan grew the firm to over 130 advisors on the strong foundation and principles that were the bedrock of Alan’s practice.

Alan is described as loyal, generous, honest, caring, compassionate, humble, supportive to all, and trusting of many. Cheryl deRosa, GVA Chief Compliance Officer and longtime friend of the Peters family states, “He always had a ready smile and cheerful demeanor.  I have fond memories of him dressing up as Santa for my daughter’s Birthday parties. No matter your age, Alan always met you at your level; for kids that meant getting down on the floor to play, and for adults that often involved lessons on the whiteboard.  He took pride in making sure his clients understood what he was conveying regarding their financial decisions.”

Ryan Todd, GVA’s Founding Partner, and CEO remembers the first time he and Mike Dedda met Alan. “Alan wouldn’t let either of us take cream or sugar in our coffee. He taught us, ‘The sooner you drink your coffee military style the better off you will be.’ He was a big personality with strong convictions, but Alan always made everyone feel like family and took a personal interest in his clients, their families, and their financial well-being.”

The GVA family will always be grateful for what Alan brought to the table so many years ago and our hearts go out to his wife Claudia, his daughter and GVA team member Meghan Geary, and the entire Peters family.
